T. Udhayachandran, Principal Secretary of the Finance Department, explained that an additional year is required for this purpose.

Speaking at a press conference following the presentation of the state budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, T. Udhayachandran stated that measures to boost the state’s revenue are being actively pursued. Consequently, he officially announced that the increased grant amount of Rs. 2,500 would be deposited into beneficiaries’ bank accounts only after the government’s revenue rises significantly.
Disappointment for Women with High Hopes
This announcement has disappointed lakhs of women who had expected the hike in the grant amount to be announced in the 2026-27 budget itself. With household expenses and the prices of essential commodities continuing to rise, many had hoped the increase would take effect immediately.
Government Explains Financial Challenges
According to reports, the government has explained the need to secure the necessary financial resources to expand the scheme. However, beneficiaries have expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in fulfilling the promise. The public expects the government to take steps to mobilize the required funds and implement the grant hike as announced at the earliest opportunity within the coming fiscal year.
